Position: Screening Officer
Salary: Entry Level - £28,052.93 per annum
Hours: 40 hours per week
Contract length: Permanent
Location: Lancaster Office - White Cross Industrial Estate, Alston House, Lancaster LA1 4XQ (with some travelling to other sites)

We are currently seeking a new Screening Officer who champions our values to join our team in Lancaster.
This position will report to the Head of Recruitment.
Please note: This is a fully office-based role. Remote or hybrid working is not available.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Candidate vetting:
- Carry out pre-employment screening in line with BS7858:2019 requirements.
- Verify a minimum of 5 years of employment history, education and gaps in employment.
- Process and review DBS Checks.
- Confirm the candidate’s identity using government issued documents and ensure the individual has the right to work in the UK.
- Conduct credit checks and identify any signs of financial vulnerability that may pose a security threat.
- Validate gaps of employment of more than 31 days.
- Check validity of SIA Licences, monitor expiry dates and renewals.
- Identify and flag any potential security and reputational threats.
- Store all screening data securely, in line with internal data protection policies.
- Work closely with the recruitment team to ensure that targets are met.
- Stay up to date with SIA regulations and the BS7858 standards.
- Contribute to policy updates and internal audits as needed.
- Work Visa management.
- Student Visa management.
- Updating employee details.
- Ensure all employee records are kept current within internal systems and vetting data bases.
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in an administrative, compliance, vetting or HR role.
- Experience within a regulated industry (e.g. security, finance, healthcare) is desirable.
- Strong understanding of confidentiality and data protection (GDPR).
- Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies.
- Ability to assess risk and make informed decisions, escalating concerns where appropriate.
- Experience working to deadlines or targets in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Confident and professional phone manner.
- Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
- Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams) and ability to learn new systems quickly.
Schedule:
- 40 hours per week.
- Monday to Friday 09:00 – 17:30.
- You may have the opportunity to undertake additional shifts within our security and stewarding operations. These shifts are optional and only available Friday evenings and Saturdays, outside of core office hours.
